Liz, this is so exciting! I'm so looking forward to reading your new book. And I had to admire that banner you have with FIVE books in it. Gotta celebrate that too!!
Thank you so much, Sharon! I joke that I’ll do almost anything to get out of cleaning my house :) And I’m so glad you’re feeling better! My husband had shingles 20+years ago and it was awful.
Congratulations, Liz! You are a rock star! I'm sure that Claire will dazzle women far and wide and have heads nodding and fists pumping. I totally understand the "celebrating wins" conundrum. I wait to feel like I "deserve" to celebrate (which never happens, ie I received a bottle of Dom many years ago from a friend in recognition of a big accomplishment and I have yet to drink it because I'm waiting for a new win that deserves this bubbly—how tragic!). It sounds like you have a very special day tomorrow (so glad that it includes your favorite restaurant) and I plan to join the online celebrations to cheer you on! PLEASE play the Rocky theme song tomorrow and stomp through your house like a badass, PLEASE. Because you are!
You are so funny, Eva, thank you! Yes, why do we wait to celebrate (or skip it completely!?)? I hope you pop the cork on that bubbly soon! I'd love to see you tomorrow, but no pressure!! Hope to see you in-person soon too!! 💕
That means so much, Liz—thank you! (I read your wonderful guest rec in Humor Me and wanted to learn more about how you work across genres, so I hope you won’t mind if I get in touch about that!)
Thanks so much, Joe! I would totally add guac but I've got Blossom on my mind—do you and the family ever go there? It's on par with our beloved Thai Thai!
Congratulations, Liz! I hope you celebrate big on Tuesday because the release of your new book is worth it! 🎉 Maybe even toast to continued success with some ice cold champagne 🍾
Congrats, Liz! Really looking forward to reading this one. It sounds so good! Hope you have a nice publication day, however you choose to celebrate (or not).
Liz, congratulations!! Such a big milestone, even if you're wearing sweats and eating takeout. Adding your book (whose title/premise I ADORE and which speaks to SO. MANY. WOMEN.) to my TBR list!
Oh my gosh I SO get this. It’s quite similar to science, actually. You work on a grant proposal (complete with revisions and rejections) for years, and then when the thing gets funded, you actually do the work for several more years, followed by publishing the results (more revisions, another year.) By the time the results finally make a splash in the news or the scientific community (IF they do), it’s kinda like eh who cares. And it’s funny because I’m always telling my students to stop and absorb and celebrate their wins but I’m now realizing I rarely do this myself (I’m also a sweatpants kinda gal). It’s interesting to know novelists go through something similar. I hope you are able to find a few moments to soak it all in and truly celebrate on pub day- dinner sounds like a great start!
Thank you so much, Lindsey! So happy to meet another sweatpants gal! Wow, yes, it sounds like a very similar process, but, of course you're doing life-changing work and I'm trying to provide someone with a few hours of entertainment 🤣 so your celebrations seem much more necessary! I am very excited for dinner though!😀 Your students are lucky to have you!
Oh no way, reading fiction and humor are like the very things- sometimes the only things, especially with everything happening right now- that keep me going! I’ve got your book on the top of my list for our upcoming vacation. Nothing better than diving into a pile of fiction on a trip!
Oh that means the world to me! I hope you enjoy it! I feel the same way - my whole day is better if I know I have a good book to read at the end of it. Have a wonderful vacation!!
Liz! I am so excited for your book! I pre-ordered during the Jurassic Period so am so happy to see it will arrive soon! I am just starting this process of pre-publication and already feel overwhelmed, so your post resonates. Deeply. Mazel tov!
It’s all very exciting to me! I ordered the new book through my local “Looker Books” to support her business! Excited to read the next adventure! Also-continue to not find Canva “so easy!!” As all of my colleagues seem to! Cheers to you, Liz!
Aw, Amy, thank you and I love that you're supporting your local bookstore! I recently started covering some shifts at my local bookshop and when it comes working the fancy coffee machine, I'm like Amelia Bedelia! It's actually going worse than Canva! Hope to see you soon! xx
Another FABULOUS stack from Liz Alterman. My Sunday is now complete. I can so relate to much of what you write about and I am so glad you will go out and celebrate your book release (sans sweatpants). You deserved to! I'm presently reading Claire and OMG I am laughing and snorting and sighing my way through it. I will be on that zoom call on Tuesday! Can't wait.
Congrats on your new book! I'm looking forward to reading it soon.
Thanks so much, Vicki! If you like audiobooks, it's and free right now on Netgalley: https://www.netgalley.com/book/650865
Hope you're doing well!
Thanks for the info. I actually bought the Kindle book already.
Thank you so much, Vicki!! I hope you enjoy it! I'm so grateful for your support!!

Thank you for the shout-out, Liz, especially in such a wonderful post! And *massive* congratulations!!!
Thank you so much, Mary! I love your Substack. Your post on dealing with rejection really spoke to me too!
That means so much, Liz—thank you! (I read your wonderful guest rec in Humor Me and wanted to learn more about how you work across genres, so I hope you won’t mind if I get in touch about that!)
Oh, I'd love that, thank you! Julie Vick's newsletter is the gift that keeps on giving!
Totally splurge and add the guac on Tuesday! Congrats on yet ANOTHER book!
Thanks so much, Joe! I would totally add guac but I've got Blossom on my mind—do you and the family ever go there? It's on par with our beloved Thai Thai!

Thanks so much, Andrew! I’m looking forward to whatever you write next! (I’d love to see something from that giant duck’s POV …)

Hi Irena! Thank you so much for reading this and for adding Claire to your TBR! I hope you enjoy it! 💕
You deserve to celebrate Liz. I hope you have a special day. I'll try to be at the Zoom launch. I'm so looking forward to reading this book. XO
Oh, Rose, it would be so great to see you! Thank you! I miss our in-person writing chat so much! 💕
I miss it too.

Hi Lindsey! Thank you so much for your support! I'm glad but sorry you can relate! I'm looking forward to your cover reveal and reading Gap Year!
I am definitely glad I can relate and thank you for your support! Cover reveal coming very soon!!
Yay! I can't wait!

Thank you so much, Camille! I was just so happy to see Jessica Payne singing your praises this morning as well! 💕
No way! Thank you for sharing that.
