It's Launch Day for The House on Cold Creek Lane
Starting with a cat photo since it's a special occasion...
Hi Everyone! Hope your August is off to a great start!
It’s officially publication day for The House on Cold Creek Lane so I’ll probably spend the day checking social media and berating myself for all the interesting marketing things I could’ve/should’ve done but won’t think of until late next week.
If you’re curious about this suspense novel, you can read Chapter 1 on What Is That Book About and Chapter 2 on The Nerd Daily. Thank you to both publications—specifically Michelle and Elise, for your support! I also put the novel through the Page 69 test on Marshal Zeringue’s site. The gist is: If you flipped to Page 69 in a novel, is it representative of the story as a whole? Spoiler: I waffled a bit in my analysis before coming around to a “yes, I think so.” Thanks again, Marshal!
If you’ve read the novel and can leave a review, that would be amazing! Here are the sites where they’re most helpful. (Cutting and pasting your review to leave on multiple sites is perfect!) Thank you again!
Amazon (Since it's pub day, reviews can be left on Amazon now - thank you!)
In case you're wondering why reviews matter so much to authors, I wrote this article a few years ago (thanks again to
for sharing her insight!) that outlines how they impact sales and other opportunities down the line.As we know all too well, books are expensive. Libraries are a wonderful way for authors to reach as many readers as possible. If I can ask a favor, if you have a moment over the next few weeks, could you ask your library to purchase a copy of the hardcover, ebook, or audiobook? Typically, there's a form on your library's website that allows you to make requests and it will most likely ask for this information:
Title: The House on Cold Creek Lane

ISBN-13 : 978-1448314003

Thank you for considering it!
Where I’ll Be:
Friend and fellow author Lee Kelly will join me at The Book House Millburn, NJ Thursday, August 8, 2024 from 6 to 8 p.m. to help me celebrate the launch of The House on Cold Creek Lane. There’ll be food (as seen in the book!) and wine.
If you’re in the area, please join us!
Lisa Kusel and I celebrated the launch of her suspense novel The Widow on Dwyer Court last month in Vermont and now we’re taking our show on the road. Join us at the Jersey Shore! The Book House Long Branch, NJ on Saturday, August 10 from 5 to 7 p.m.
All events are free and open to the public.
I’m planning some additional appearances in the New Jersey area for September and October, but I’m always up for Zooming into a book club. If you’re interested and live out of state, feel free to get in touch!
What’s next?
Back-to-school season can stir up a mix emotions: sadness as summer ends, elation that your kids will be out of the house and not asking, “What do we have to eat???” 400 times a day, and confusion as you’d swear your cats are hiding all the glue sticks and colored pencils you buy year after year despite the fact that no one ever needs them.
But all that aside—or maybe because it calls up those happy memories of getting new shoes, sweaters, and school supplies—September often leaves me craving education and self-improvement.
If you’re a writer who’s looking to make some positive changes this year, I have just the thing!
I frequently mention bestselling author Camille Pagán’s wonderful podcast, You Should Write a Book, which never fails to inspire and motivate me. (After I send this newsletter, I’m going to listen to her latest episode with a cup of coffee.)
Committed to helping authors write books, actually enjoy the process, and create even better writing careers, Camille’s next Career Novelist Mastermind begins September 4, 2024.
Applications are considered on a first-come, first-served basis, and the group is capped at 12 writers. This four-month small group coaching program combines proven publishing strategies and research-backed coaching techniques that empower you to create your ideal fiction career.
To learn more, visit Camille’s website.
I hope to join Camille’s Mastermind one day but promised myself (and my family) I’d take a bit of a break from longer-form writing for a few months. (Little do they know without writing, I go straight to cat photography as a creative outlet. Get ready for your close-up, Boots!)
That’s not entirely true. I’m excited to partner with The Book House to host a podcast interviewing authors with ties to the Garden State. My first guest was my dear friend, the enormously talented poet Melissa Elder. Feel free to listen here and please subscribe!
If you’re seeking a little quiet time to work on a project this fall, Spruceton Inn in the Catskills is accepting applications for its artist residency through August 14. Bonus: it’s free to apply!
Thanks again for reading and I wish a wonderful and relaxing August!
Congratulations! My copy arrived on my kindle yesterday, and I can’t wait to read it!
